LAUNCH OF THE MACKELVIE SOCIETY 30 OCT 2019
The Mackelvie Trust is honoured to have launched the Mackelvie Society, a philanthropic supporters' group established in 2019 to maintain the legacy of the Mackelvie Collection and secure its future relevance.
The distinguished event was held on 30th October inside the stunning Mackelvie Gallery at the Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki. Guests enjoyed hearing perspectives on the Mackelvie Collection from David Gaimster, Director of the Auckland War Memorial Museum and Mary Kisler, former senior curator of the Mackelvie Collection at Auckland Art Gallery. The New Zealand Youth Choir quartet was sublime, singing Scottish songs in tribute to the late James Mackelvie, with guests also taking time to view treasures from the collection on display.
"James Mackelvie's generous bequest remains one of the most remarkable gifts to the city of Auckland. Our launch event was a fitting celebration of his legacy, with like-minded people sharing their passion for the arts and hearing about our aspirations for the newly formed Mackelvie Society,” said Andrew Smith, chair of the Mackelvie Trust. “We now invite you to be part of the collection's growth and enchantment by joining the Mackelvie Society.”
Thank you for the generosity of our very first Mackelvie Society Members and a very warm welcome to the Mackelvie Society.
