MACKELVIE SOCIETY LECTURE SERIES 2021
MACKELVIE SOCIETY LECTURE SERIES 2021
with Senior Curator International Art, Dr Sophie Matthiesson
Join us for a series of five fantastic lectures with Sophie Matthiesson. Uncover the 'lure of Italy' during the eighteenth century, art made in French political prisons, the exuberant paintings of Howard Hodgkin, tales of Monet's gardens at Giverny and the friendship between abstract painters, Piet Mondrian and Ben Nicholson.
Sophie Matthiesson has more than 20 years’ experience as a curator and educator in England and Australia, including Curator of International Art at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne (2007-2019). In her current role as Senior Curator of International Art at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, Sophie develops and manages the Gallery’s historical and modern international art collection, including the Mackelvie collection.
These events are a part of the Mackelvie Society Lecture Series 2021. Four lectures hosted online via Zoom, one is onsite at the Auckland Art Gallery Auditorium. All are free to the members of the Gallery and the Mackelvie Society.
Membership is the Gallery’s entry-level loyalty programme, launched in 2016. Gallery Membership supports the care for art and artists through exhibitions, research, publishing, education programmes and conservation efforts.
The Mackelvie Society is the philanthropic support branch of the Mackelvie Trust and by joining, you ensure the future growth and enchancement of the collection.
